ROUTE OF NATIONAL PARKS OF GUANACASTE
SANTA ROSA NATIONAL PARK – MARINO LAS BAULAS NATIONAL PARK

Currently there are 28 national parks in charge of the National System of Conservation Areas (SINAC, by its acronyms in spanish). In this route we will know 6 of these wonders.

The Santa Rosa National Park is the first national park of Costa Rica and the largest in the country. It was created to commemorate Hacienda Santa Rosa because of the historic battle between the invading forces of the american William Walker and the makeshift volunteer army of Costa Rica. This important park, protects great extension of one of the last dry forested forests of the world.

Connected to the Santa Rosa is Guanacaste National Park, one of the most impressive natural resources in Costa Rica and wildlife reserves, so, with the Santa Rosa forms one of the largest biological reserves in the world.

WHAT TO VISIT?

  • Santa Rosa National Park
  • Guanacaste National Park
  • Rincón de la Vieja National Park
  • Miravalles Volcano
  • Tenorio National Park
  • Palo Verde National Park
  • Marino Las Baulas National Park

Rincón de la Vieja National Park is one of the most ecologically diverse parks in Costa Rica. The park is home of two volcanoes: Rincón de la Vieja and Santa María. Here you can walk, do picnics and horseback riding.

Then it is possible to admire the Miravalles Volcano on the way to Tenorio National Park, one of the youngest in the country. It has stunning river views and a wealth of opportunities to venture out into the wild.

One of the best places to see the diversity of wildlife in Costa Rica is the Palo Verde National Park, it is also excellent for bird watching because of the wetlands. Palo Verde protects one of the last dry forests and is home to one of the most densely populated Central American areas of migratory birds and aquatic species.

Finally, you will find Baulas National Marine Park, where sea turtles with chamois hide nest in Playa Grande nest. Apart from this beach, the park has three more beaches that you can perfectly visit: Playa Langosta, Playa Ventanas and Playa Carbón.
